Jean Eppler’s Cranberries Gone Wild Dip

Jean Eppler’s Cranberries Gone Wild Dip – THE WINNER!!!

For the past couple years I’ve been bringing this dip to parties and it’s always a hit! People are always surprised when they learn that the main ingredient is cranberries. One bite of this dip is like a party in your mouth!  This is a recipe I love to share!

Time: 15 minutes prep + 4 hours refrigeration

Ingredients:
12 oz.  package fresh cranberries
1 bunch  green onion, chopped
1/4 C cilantro, chopped
1 small jalapeno pepper
1  1/4 C sugar
1/4 heaping tsp. cumin
2 T fresh lime juice
dash kosher salt
2  8 oz packages whipped cream cheese

Directions:
1. Chop cranberries in a food processor.

2. Chop up your green onion, cilantro, and jalapeno pepper into small pieces.

3. Add all ingredients (but the cream cheese and lime chips) into a bowl. Mix them all
together, cover and store in the fridge for at least 4 hours. The sugar needs some time to soak into the cranberries and break up their bitter taste.

4. When you are ready to serve, spread your cream cheese on a platter.

5.  Pour your cranberry mixture over the cream cheese.

6.  Spread it all around.

7.  Serve  with lime chips

A lime margarita tastes great with this dip!

  1. I absolutely love this!

I have been making a Cranberry Salsa for years with added sweet potato, pecans, orange peel and juice, Serrano chiles, cilantro, sugar and cinnamon. Sometimes I vary it with Apple and Ginger or Lime and Mescal.

I love serving it with Terra Chips brightly colored Taro and Parsnip chips and Sweet Potato Chips. This is a staple opener to my Holiday Mexican Feast, along with Guacamole and Mexican Seafood Coctel’s of shrimp, oysters, scallop and squid, all layered with Pico de Gallo, avocado chunks, and spicy tomato juice with oyster crackers MMMMM

I cannot wait to try your Cranberries Gone Wild Jean! What an excellent recipe for me to keep the tradition, but change it up a bit for interest. Thank You! I am so glad you won!

  2. I recently tasted this for the first time at a party. My friend who brought it said it’s always a hit whenever she makes it and she was right! Everyone raved about it. I’m making it for a New Year’s Eve party! Thanks, Jean for sharing it!

    • Hi again, Robyn -

I can’t tell you how many times we ran into this dip this holiday season, and never once did we tire of it. Even my mother made it for our Christmas Day dinner, and my sister who was very skeptical about a cranberry dip is now a big fan. We are thankful to Jean for sharing this recipe with us and our readers – it’s easy to see how this was our contest winner!
